Bealtaine

Anglicized as Beltane. Gaelic Festival that marks the beginning of summer, traditionally held on May 1, or about halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice. The festival often includes bonfires. It is suggested that the word means “the fires of Bel” and that Bel likely referred to the sun god, Belenus. Others suggest is simply means “bright fire, ” as bel is a Celtic word that means “light or bright” one. “teine” is a Celtic word said to mean fire.
